Ready to change the boring picture that Windows 10 automatically assigns to your user account? For every newly created user account, Windows chooses a generic silhouette. Feel free to change the picture to something more reflective of the Real You: You can snap a photo with your computer’s webcam or choose any photo in your Pictures folder.
To change your user account’s picture, head for the Start menu and click your picture in the screen’s top-right corner. When the menu drops down, choose Change Account Settings. Windows presents the screen shown here.
The Accounts page lets you change your picture two main ways:
- Browse: To assign a picture already on your computer, click the Browse button. A new window appears, showing photos in your Pictures folder. Click a desired picture and click the Choose Image button. Windows quickly slaps that picture atop your Start menu.
- Camera: This option, available only for people with a camera attached to their computers, lets you take a quick selfie for your account photo.
- Other Accounts You Use: Choose this option to grab your account photo from social media accounts you’ve shared with Windows 10.
Here are a few more tips for choosing your all-important account photo:
- After you’ve chosen an account photo, it attaches to your Microsoft account and anything you sign in to with that account: Your Microsoft phone, for example, Microsoft websites and programs, and any Windows computer you sign in to with your Microsoft account.
- You can grab any picture off the Internet and save it to your Pictures folder. Then click the Browse button mentioned earlier in this section to locate the picture and assign it as your account photo. (Right-click the Internet picture and, depending on your web browser, choose Save Picture or a similar menu option.)
- Don’t worry about choosing a picture that’s too large or too small. Windows automatically shrinks or expands the image to fit the postage-stamp-sized space. (Account pictures must be square, though.)
- Only holders of Administrator and Standard accounts can change their pictures. (Guest accounts are stuck with the faceless gray silhouette.)
My monitor is over 20 inches, and the account pictures on the welcome screen are less thant 1in. x 1in. I looks ludicrous; How can I change the size of the account pictures.
Hi
Yes, you can do this. This procedure is actually a font size change for the logon screen, but it also changes the size of the logon profile icons.
1. Click the Start button and type regedit in the Search box. In the Results, Right Click regedit and select the Run as Administrator option.
Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIGSoftwareFonts
We will do the math for 450, 900, and 1350 base damage. Dark souls 3 broken armor. These represent a small hit, a medium hit, and a major hit.
2. Backup the value you will be changing.
Right click the Fonts key in the left pane, select Export. In the Save As dialog, select the Desktop as the save in location. In the File Name box type LogonBackup. Click the Save button.
If anything goes wrong, you can go to the Desktop, right click the LogonBackup.reg file and select Merge to restore the registry value.
3. In the right side pane, Double Click the LogPixels value. In the Edit dialog box, change the 2 digit value using the following guide.
Fallout 4 stuck loading new game. 60 -(100% Font Size) -Default size
78 -(125% Font Size)
90 -(150% Font Size)
4. Exit the Registry editor and restart the computer to test the results.

Regards,
Ronnie Vernon MVP – Windows Expert - ConsumerWe all love to set up our pictures for the User accounts in our own ways. Setting a picture for a User Account gives us the personalized feel, thus enhancing our experience while using Windows. But today, I came around an error while setting my user account picture in Windows 8. The screen showed following error:
Account picture error. Setting the account picture failed. Please try again.
As you can see in the image above, there is no support link provided to fix this issue. You have to try again and again until the problem gets sorted. But that’s not the way to fix it, as I tried to click OK again and again, plus restarted the system, still no luck. In my case, I was sure that Windows is activated. Then I tried the following method, and I was finally able to set my desired image as user account picture.
Here is how:
1. Go to system root drive on which Windows is installed currently, that is usually C: drive (however, in my case it was E: drive). In the ribbon options, click View, then check the Hidden items. Now click the ProgramData folder so appeared which was hidden one.
2. After clicking ProgramData, navigate to MicrosoftUser Account Pictures. In the User Accounts Pictures folder, you’ll see the default user account pictures. You’ll just need to replace these pictures with your desired picture for user account. There are guest.bmp (448×448 px.), guest.png (448×448 px.), user.bmp (448×448 px.), user.png (448×448 px.), user-40.png (40×40 px.) and user-200.png (200×200 px.) pictures.
3. Manipulate your desired image for user account picture in the same format and same size and replace the default ones. So that now the User Account Pictures folder looks like this:
Finally, now reboot the system and you’ll be able to get your desired image as user account picture. That’s it!
Hope it helps!

An account picture is the small image that is shown in your Start Menu and in the login screen next to your account name. Windows 7 allows you to select an image from a small set of built-in images or you can add a custom image to it instead. This tutorial will walk you through changing your account picture to a built-in or custom picture.
To change your account picture in Windows 7 click on the Start button and then type Change account picture. When the the Change your account picture result appears left click on it. This will open up the Change Your Picture screen as shown in the image below.
At this screen you can choose one of the built-in images to be your account picture or click on the Browser for more pictures.. option to select a custom one. If you are happy with one of the built-in ones, simply left click on it and then click on the Change Picture button to use it. That picture will now be associated with your account.
On the other hand, if you wish to use a custom picture click on the Browse for more pictures.. button and you will be presented with a dialog box where you can browse to an existing picture that you wish to use instead.
As custom pictures are cropped and made smaller when you select them, it is advised that you first crop them into a square and to only use the portion of the picture you wish to be visible. This will make it so that account picture is easier to see and has no important parts of the picture mistakenly removed.
Browse for a picture you wish to use and left click on it to select it. Then click on the Open button to select it as your account picture. You will then be brought back to the User Accounts screen where you will see the new picture associated with your account.
